Derby County Football Club

We are pleased to submit our assessment report to your club.  Given the recent history and challenges that Derby County Football Club has encountered, we feel that there are certain key areas where DCFC can improve.  We have identified these main areas as marketing, expenses and investments.

One of the major sources of income for DCFC comes from royalties, licenses and merchandise.  During the peak of the teams success, millions of Pounds were earned from related revenues.  This, however, has taken a decline and has been shown to be directly related to team performance.  We suggest improving the image of the team and the staff through inexpensive promotional items such as online social networking to create a dedicated fan base.

Another key area is the expense area.  A huge part of the cost is caused by the increasing player salaries.  While talent is indeed not cheap, success is team based.  Finding ways to stagger the player payments will allow the team to be competitive as well as reduce the payments.  Performance based incentives can also ensure that players contribute well.  With the rising ticket prices, fans want a winning team to root for however, if they are invested emotionally they will still support the team.

The most important part is the investment area.  To have a successful team, there must be a balance between expenses and revenues.  As of now, there is not much in investment the side of DCFC.  Community based investments will not only generate fan support but also draw in funds from local industries.  Investing in a local talent pool and creating job programs for surrounding communities will allow DCFC to develop local talent as well as increase the fan support base.

Lining up these main areas, DCFC can improve its image, financially and performance wise.  Cheap and effective marketing, community based programs and smart investment and corporate partnerships remain to be key for the revitalization and eventual success of this Football Franchise.
